Any misconduct by a student, which in the opinion of the bus driver or bus supervision, is detrimental to the safe operation of the bus, shall be sufficient cause for the principal to consider the incident exceptional misconduct and potentially suspend the transportation privilege.
Rules of conduct for students riding buses:
- Students shall obey the driver and any aide assigned to the bus by the district. The driver is in full charge of the bus and passengers. If an aide is assigned to the bus by the district, he/she shall be responsible for the safe operation of the bus. When transporting classes or team, the teacher or coach shall be primarily responsible for the behavior of the students. Students shall obey both driver and the teacher, coach or other staff member.
- Students shall ride only on their assigned bus unless a parent or gaurdian provides permission to do otherwise and has been received by the appropriate school official.
- Unless the driver has written permission from the school office, no student shall be permitted to leave the bus except at his or her regular stop.
- The driver may assign each student a seat in which he or she must be seated at all times unless permission to change is given by the driver.
- Students shall observe rules of classroom conduct while riding on buses. Noise shall be kept down to avoid distracting the driver. Students shall refrain from the use of obscene language or gestures.
- No tobacco or any resemblance of tobacco products in any form are allowed on a school bus. No student shall light matches or lighters on a school bus.
- Students shall not eat or drink on buses, except when specifically authorized and supervised by an accompanying teacher, coach or other staff member. Buses shall be kept clean.
- No student shall open a window on the bus without first getting permission from the school bus driver.
- No student shall extend his/her head, hands, or arms out of the windows, weather the school bus is in motion or standing still.
- Students must see that they have nothing in their possession that may cause injury to another, such as sticks, breakable containers, dangerous weapons, straps or pins extending from their clothing, or drugs.
- Each student will see that his or her books and personal belongings are kept out of the aisle. Special permission must be granted by school authorities to transport any large items.
- Students shall not have animals on buses, except a dog providing assistance to a disabled student, unless permission is given by the superintendent.
- Students shall not sit in the driver's seat or the stairwell.
- Students shall refrain from talking to the driver unless necessary.
- Students shall go directly to a seat once inside the bus and remain seated while the bus is in motion and are not to get off the bus until it has come to a full stop.
- Students shall get on/off the bus in an orderly manner and shall obey the instructions of the driver or school safety patrolmen on duty. Students shall not push or shove others when boarding or leaving the bus. Once off the bus, students shall adhere to rules for pedestrians.
- Students shall never cross the roadway behind the bus.
- Students shall stand away from the roadway curb when any bus is approaching or leaving a stop.
- Students should be at their bus stop at least five minutes ahead of time to keep the bus on schedule.
- Students going to and from their bus stops where there are no sidewalks shall walk on the left had side of the roadway facing oncoming traffic. Students shall go directly to their home after leaving the bus.
- Students shall use lap belts on buses if available.
- Students shall follow emergency exit drill procedures as prescribed by the driver.
- Students shall not tamper with emergency doors or equipment.
- Students shall remain quietly seated, not not exhibit disruptive behavior and wear headsets when using noise making devises.
- Parents of students identified as causing damage to buses shall be charged with the cost of the incurred damage. Students causing damage may be suspended from transportation.
- Student misconduct shall constitute sufficient reason for suspending transportation privileges.
- NO SKATE BOARDS ARE ALLOWED ON BUSES
- ALL CELL PHONES ARE TO BE TURNED OFF AND KEPT IN BACKPACKS OR PURSES WHILE ON THE BUS
